Why do we lie to ourselves? Is it because we don’t want to hear or face the truth; or is it to get out of sticky situations; or could it be out of habit? Whatever the reason may be it is certainly a poor idea to lie to yourself. The more to you lie the more you start believing the lies and you end up living your life through those lies.
I suppose it is much easier to lie to yourself than to be truthful. Most of the time we don’t want to hear or face the truth, even if the saying goes; ‘only the truth will set you free.’ This saying could save your life for example, you are a woman in an abusive relationship but you keep lying to yourself and saying that he will change or he won’t hit me again. I really don’t understand why people would lie to themselves about such life threatening situations.
We don’t realise that when we lie, we are selling ourselves short because most of the time it is the truth that we need to hear. We are our biggest fans and yet we are our worst critiques so let’s criticise ourselves constructively and honestly because honesty is the best policy.
That is true, we should tell others as well, as Benjamin Franklin states our best friends are our critics too. We should be the first to be aware of it and admit to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is true. In certain situations we need to be honest with ourselves. We cannot always hide from the truth becuase the truth will always come out.
ReplyDeleteSo true and so many times people lie to themselves as it gives them a sense of happiness to know that in their minds they are doing the right thing. Never hide behind a shadow, the walls sometimes close in...
