Well as a child I never read any Cat in the Hat books, yep you read correctly- NEVER! This is my reasoning behind it; I found the black, red and white covers to be SO boring. I enjoyed colourful cover pages as it intrigued me to read the book. Don’t get me started on Dr Seuss; that weirdly shaped paws or hands, that sharp pointy nose, that wicked smile and beady eyes was more than enough to put me off. He simply freaked me out! He was supposed to be a cute-cuddly cat but no he had to be a freakishly scary one.
Even at the age of 21 I still haven’t read a Cat in the Hat book and I don’t think I ever will. If it’s any consolation I did what Horton Hears a Who and thoroughly enjoyed it. Must be because there were minimal cats involved- shiver.
